To compare hotel carpet quotations meaningfully, assess the same technical features in every proposal. When information is incomplete or unclear, it is difficult to see the real difference between two products that look alike. These are the main specifications to review.
Materials and construction
Ask for the fibre type and blend percentages, such as 100% wool or 80% wool / 20% polyamide; the manufacturing method, such as weaving or tufting/AutoTuft; and the yarn construction, including the number of plies. In heavily used hotel spaces, wool and wool-rich blends offer natural resilience that helps preserve appearance. Request measurable descriptions rather than general phrases such as “high-quality carpet”.
Pile weight and density
Pile weight in grams per square metre and weave density are key numerical specifications. Request the same units in every quotation and assess the figures together.
Reaction-to-fire classification and documentation
Request the relevant classification, such as Bfl-s1, and an independent test report supporting it. Also check any additional documentation required for your project, including CE marking where applicable.
Acoustic performance
Review sound absorption figures for acoustically sensitive spaces such as conference rooms and upper-floor corridors. Check the measurement method: NRC and SAA are different indicators from an ISO 354-based absorption value and should not be compared as equivalent figures.
Colour fastness and wear resistance
Request colour fastness results for sun-exposed areas and wear resistance results for busy spaces. Without test data, the word “durable” does not provide a meaningful basis for comparing suppliers.
Dimensions, pattern repeat and installation
Confirm the total area, pattern repeat dimensions, carpet format and installation layout, whether rolls, tiles or joined panels. These details help establish whether quotations cover the same scope.
Samples and mock-ups
Before approving an order, request a full-scale sample or a small mock-up area. A digital rendering cannot fully communicate the actual feel, colour or pile height.
Warranty and technical support
Ask for the warranty period and coverage in writing. Conditions can differ by manufacturer and product, so each supplier should provide its own written terms.
Delivery and logistics
Confirm production time, shipping method and customs arrangements at quotation stage. These details directly affect a refurbishment programme or planned opening date.
Assessing every quotation against these nine headings puts your hotel carpet decision on a firmer basis than price alone.
